Imagining a US People’s Health Movement: Transforming Health Care for Underserved and Excluded Communities
We need a movement of communities and health care professionals to imagine and design a health care system rooted deeply in the principles of social justice and Health Care as a fundamental human right. We need a Health System with a sharp and self- reflective analysis of power, racism, classism, sexism, and structural oppression.
We need to build a movement that works to transform our vision and system of Health Care on different levels simultaneously.
Education Transformation: We need a dramatic shift in medical education from how to run a disease management business to how to be an ally in communities redesigning and rebuilding a local, National, and global culture of Health and wellbeing.
Question Transformation: We need a movement that roots our work for change in questions beyond “Who Paysâ€. We need a movement that is actively working to redesign what health care looks like in our communities.
Integral Health Care Transformation: We need a movement that works to make all forms of healing arts and practices available to communities. We need a system that is not a medical care system or a disease management system, but a system of healing, well being, and lasting health.
We need a community and network of people working on many diflérent pieces of the health system puzzle.
We need a space to plant and bring to light visions of a fundamentally re-designed health care system.
We need to share our successes, dreams, and victories large and small and build a community and culture of hope and action in the midst of a very sick “health systemâ€.
